Book Blogs Toplist: A Joyful Update
When I created my analysis of the book-blogosphere, I didn’t expect this overwhelming feedback. It showed me there was a gap to fill, so I decided to continue maintaining and expanding the toplist. This provides a directory of German-language book blogs, which is actually a pretty good thing. In any case, thank you very much for all the responses and for the many missing links you sent.
Alongside several updates to the list and adding numerous book blogs that were missing in the first version, there are a few more changes. I especially want to highlight the first update mentioned here:
- Every year on April 23, World Book Day, there’s a lovely initiative: Blogger schenken Lesefreude. On that day, many blogs give away books and spread pure reading joy. I’m joining in this year as well, and of course you can find plenty of participating book bloggers in the toplist who are also giving away a book. That’s why all blogs taking part in the initiative are now marked with a small logo next to the URL. Hover over the link and you’ll see which book is being raffled. You can view blogs that are participating but aren’t in the toplist here. And apologies in advance for shamelessly tapping into the participant list ;)
- The list now contains 900 blogs. In this update, a whole bunch were added that I found via Blogger schenken Lesefreude.
- Besides the rank value, you now see its development — i.e., whether a blog has moved up or down since the last update. Lesestunden is currently slipping quite a bit, so if you have room, feel free to add me to your blogroll ;)
- In terms of styling, I’ve now aligned the toplist with the rest of my blog and made it a bit sleeker.
- There’s now a link to add URLs. If your blog is missing or you know of a book blog that’s not listed yet, just submit it there.
- If you’re feeling bold, you can subscribe to all blogs in your RSS reader (e.g., feedly). You can easily import the blogs via the OPML format. You’ll find all 900 blogs in OPML format here. I tried it once as a test, and it’s actually not that bad. Of course you can’t read every post, but skimming works quite well, Twitter-style. My essential book blogs remain in my regular RSS reader, though — otherwise you lose track, and it becomes just more background noise.
Of course I also noticed the criticism, and I’d like to issue a clear warning at this point not to overvalue the ranking in this toplist. For example, it says nothing about content quality or visit quality. My blog, for instance, isn’t ranked in the top 100, but it gets very “high-quality” visits — meaning visitors spend a long time on the site and apparently read the posts closely instead of bouncing immediately. I’m very happy about that, because I much prefer fewer visitors who are genuinely interested, who comment, and who find inspiration here, rather than random clicks from Google Image Search that bounce right away and benefit no one.

schade, wieso hast du nur mit dem Bloggen aufgehört? Ich hab deinen Blog aus der Liste entfernt.
Das mit den Statistiken ist so eine Sache und in diesem Fall wohl auch eine Frage, wie man das selbst auffasst. Bei mir ist es andersherum, Statistiken im Hobbyumfeld sind ok, bei den Umfragenstatistiktrash, den die Konzerne regelmäßig für ihre Zwecke durch die Medien peitschen bekomme ich hingegen immer einen Würgreflex.

Ich weigere mich in meiner gesamten Freizeit, Statistiken zu lesen. Hab den ganzen Tag damit zu tun und schalte da beim Anblick schnell mal in den Arbeitsmodus. Deswegen sehe ich mir nicht einmal die WP-Besucherstatistik an. :-)
Blogfrust, Unzufriedenheit, und noch ein paar andere Dinge … da muss man mal pausieren, innehalten und sich die “Was-will-Frage” stellen. Dafür genieße ich momentan das Lesen ohne zu rezensieren umso mehr.

Hallo Heike,
du bist doppelt in der Liste. Einmal mit umblaettern.com und einmal mit der WordPress URL. umblaettern.com ist auch korrekt markiert, weil ich die beiden Listen automatisch abgleiche und dann die URL zählt, die du bei “Blogger schenken Lesefreude” angegeben hast.
Eine Unterstützung für mehrere URLs werde ich in die Topliste noch einbauen. Das Problem gibt es an mehreren Stellen.

Ich finde leider nicht all zu oft die Zeit einige Stunden im Netz alle Blogs durch zu gehen, ABER ich nehme mir dann immer die Zeit dafür. Das macht glaube ich einen großen Teil des bloggens aus : > Kennst du die Känguru Chroniken von Marc Uwe Kling? Der bringt es recht oft auf den Punkt.
Ich finde es toll das du die Liste aktualisierst und werde sicher immer wieder vorbei schauen, dies allerdings nicht nur wegen der Liste : >

ich habe mir alle Buchblogs der Liste in feedly abonniert. Wenn ich Zeit habe, dann schau ich mir da die aktuellen Beiträge durch, was echt ganz interessant ist, weil man alles, was Buchblogger so schreiben an einem Ort findet. Die Känguru Chroniken habe ich nicht gelesen.
Pünktlich zum Welttag des Buches werde ich die Liste nochmal aktualisieren. Dann kann man sie auch gut als Übersicht für http://bloggerschenkenlesefreude.de benutzen.
